Welcome to the Karapiro Kayak Racing Club. The club is here to promote the support of kayak racing and encourage kayakers of all abilities to participate in and enjoy this great sport.
UPDATE SPRING 2009
The club is now settled in well to our new base at the Karapiro Yacht Club. This is located on the Karapiro Domain side of the lake, right next door to the new NZ Rowing High Performance centre, which is also the base for Canoe Racing New Zealand High Performance – how inspiring!
Being incorporated into the Yacht club is working out really well. The new base is waterfront with easy launching, plus we have full use of the launching pontoons. Secure (locked) storage is also available for members to use. Further, being in located within a dedicated sports club, provides opportunities for our members and pooling resources for things like funding applications, and open days/promotions etc.
MEMBERSHIP
A Karapiro Kayak Racing Club membership is great value, and gives you access to our great coaching programme and full fleet of single and double racing kayaks. We have smaller scale training boats suitable for younger members (12 or 13 upwards) or those new to K1 paddling.
There’s much more to your membership than simply coaching. Join in the club champs racing, meet other paddlers, team up for multisport events, and enjoy paddling with a great bunch of friendly and enthusiastic people.
COACHING
Weekend coaching sessions are available to all paid up members. Regular sessions are held on Saturday mornings, either out the front of the club house at Lake Karapiro, or on Hamilton Lake in the city.
