Welcome to the Karapiro Kayak Racing Club. The club is here to promote the support of kayak racing and encourage kayakers of all abilities to participate in and enjoy this great sport. New members are always welcome.
As of Sunday 10 May, the Karapiro Kayak Racing Club has a new home! We have joined up with the Karapiro Yacht Club, so their waterfront base is our new home. This is located on the Karapiro Domain side of the lake, right next door to the new NZ Rowing High Performance centre, which is also the base for Canoe Racing New Zealand High Performance how inspiring!
The new arrangement with the Yacht Club will be beneficial for both clubs, as together we can focus on improving our operations as a dedicated sports club, providing opportunities for our members and pooling resources for things like funding applications, and open days/promotions etc. The new base is waterfront with easy launching, plus we have full use of the launching pontoons. Secure (locked) storage is also available for members to use.
If you are interested in checking out the new base but not sure how or when, please contact either Sarah or Andrew MacDonald on (07) 883-1161.
PLEASE NOTE: with the move there are a number of changes, which make some of the info on this site outdated. Please be patient while we make the new arrangements. Meanwhile if you have questions please call us or send us an email: karapirokayakracing@gmail.com
As part of moving into our new home there is a bit of work to be done. The Yacht Club has undergone a number of changes with the development of the neighbouring high performance centre. We need to help out with arranging the storage of the kayak gear, and help spruce up the club rooms. The date is set for Sunday 7 June. PLEASE make an effort to attend and help get set up in our new home, plus meet the team at the Yacht Club.
There will be a number of changes happening in the coming season, including a new structured training programme, and new arrangements for accessing club boats. The best way to keep informed is to join the club as a full member (seniors $130/yr, juniors $90/yr or a 'seasonal membership' of $70 starting from term 4 09 through until Easter 2010). The new membership form for the 2009/2010 year will be added to this site very shortly.
Technique coaching is one of the main benefits of the club and the fastest way to improve your paddling. The Saturday morning training squad with coach Mark Sutherland now has strong support, and the great news is that lots of members are seeing real results, with race times coming down and down excellent progress!
Coaching is currently held at 8.30am on Saturdays (thats ready to paddle on the water at 8.30). The club will also soon benefit from the new CRNZ coaching development programme, which will bring a more resources and a more formal structure to the coaching all the better for members. So stay tuned for developments.
We are getting near the end of the season, with the final club champs race due to go on Sunday 21 June. This will be followed by an end of season BBQ, prize-giving and the AGM.
This will be held on Sunday 21 June following the final Club Champs race. We will have a BBQ and gettogher. More details to come.
